Trauma Therapy

Helping adults in Nashville and Brentwood heal from past wounds and live a more fulfilling life in the present moment

Are you tired of feeling unable to control your body and mind?

You may have arrived here if you…

  • Often feel on-edge, easily frightened, jumpy or on guard for danger without threat.

  • Have experienced moments of intense panic, feeling out of control of your body and/or mind.

  • Are unsure of why you’re feeling this way, but want it to “go away”.

  • Have experienced a distressing event(s) that is causing discomfort

  • Have tried other forms of trauma therapy, but felt like “It just didn’t work”.

Whatever you’re experiencing, you may be noticing the impact of your trauma in every facet of life:

  • Isolating from friends and family in an attempt to avoid reminders of the trauma (triggers)

  • Feeling easily distracted or unable to concentrate at work or school

  • Feeling unable to relax or “on guard” outside of your home

  • Attempting to numb the discomfort with excessive use of social media, TV or alcohol

Trauma Therapy can help.

It may feel impossible now, but you can spend less time feeling panicked. You can get back into a relaxed body and mind. You can find your calm. And I can help you get there.

Trauma therapy helps you do 4 things:

  1. Learn self-soothing skills that can help calm your body and mind

  2. Identify the memories that are causing the discomfort

  3. Reprocess the memories so that they no longer “come out of nowhere” and cause feelings of panic

  4. Make meaning of your experiences so that you can offer yourself compassion and care

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances.

My approach to trauma therapy comes from a place of empathy and understanding: believing that the question we should be asking is “What happened to you?” not “What’s wrong with you?”

You don’t have to live life feeling panicked and overwhelmed

  • During the first few sessions we will talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, your history, and define your goals.

We will then explore your trauma, learning more about where it originates and what it feels like. We’ll work on learning self-soothing skills to help calm your body and mind. We might make use of EMDR or IFS (leading trauma therapies) to help reprocess your traumatic memories in a way that can eliminate the feelings of panic associated with them.

  • The answer to this question really depends on the individual and the extent of the trauma experienced. Research suggests that many clients notice marked improvements after 12-20 sessions of trauma therapy

Some clients feel better enough that they choose to end therapy within this time. Others find that they enjoy the process of therapy and want to continue as their lives change and evolve.

My goal is to help you meet your goals at your pace. As long as therapy continues to be helpful, I’ll be here to support you.

  • Although I can’t provide absolute assurances, I can tell you I firmly believe in the potential for growth, healing, and transformation within therapy - I observe clients' lives evolve and improve every day.

Studies have consistently demonstrated that the relationship between a client and therapist is the most important factor in determining positive therapy outcomes. This is why I offer a free consultation to ensure that I am a good fit for you and your needs.
